Fire At Union Pacific Building

Omaha firefighters were prepared for the worst when they responded to a fire on the 19th floor of the Union Pacific Building in downtown early Wednesday morning.

Battalion Chief Dan Olsen tells NewsRadio 1110 KFAB a Union Pacific sign on the outside of the building was on fire when they arrived around 2:00 a.m.  Since the fire was on the 19th floor, it was out of reach of their ladders.

Olsen says they worked with U-P employees on the inside of the building to open a small access panel.   They then used fire extinguishers to put out the flames.

Olsen says there was some smoke on the 19th floor, but no damage to the inside of the building.  Employees were able to return to work shortly after the fire was put out.
