The Otoe County Sheriff's Department says 51 year old John Bruns was driving a truck loaded with propane west of Highway 75 near Union, Nebraska when he crossed the tracks and into the path of the train.

Bruns was thrown from the truck and pronounced dead at the scene. Union Pacific officials say no railroad employees were hurt.

The Otoe County Sheriff's Department told WOWT 6 News the Haz Mat Unit was called after propane was spotted leaking from the truck. The team was able to clean up the leaking fuel, before a fire could start.

Union Pacific said the crossing has non-active warning devices and yield signs.
