TEAM ACCIDENTALLY DISCOVERS PLASTIC EATING ENZYME

Scientists found a structure of bacterium in a waste dump in Japan.

As they began studying the enzyme, scientists realized with a few tweaks, the enzyme would eat plastic in a matter of days. It typically takes plastic centuries to break down in the ocean.

This could be a solution to the oceanic waste problem the world is facing. More studies are needed.
