MAN WON NOBEL PRIZE; WOMAN NOW RECOGNIZED FOR WORK

A woman working as a grad student in 1967 discovered pulsars (rapidly spinning and highly-magnetized stars).

Jocelyn Bell Burnell's discovery was published in a scientific journal. However, it was published under the name of Antony Hewish. He was the man overseeing the project.

The discovery then won the Nobel Prize in Physics. It was awarded to Hewish and another man. The given reason was that students weren't even eligible to be acknowledged.

Now, nearly a half century after her discovery, Burnell has been awarded the Breakthrough Prize in Fundamental Physics along with a $3 million prize.
