Injured Turtle Uses Lego Wheelchair While Healing

A wild turtle with a broken shell is currently using a wheelchair made of Legos while he’s recovering at the Maryland Zoo. The AP reports that the idea for the wheelchair came from zoo veterinary extern Garrett Fraess, who sent sketches to a friend who’s a Lego enthusiast. The grapefruit-sized eastern box turtle underwent surgery after being found in July with fractures to the underside of his shell. According to Fraess, keeping the shell bottom off the ground is important so it can heal. The turtle is expected to use the wheelchair into the spring.
