A Kindergartner Has Earned A College Scholarship To Play Drums

Nicole Jackson won’t have to worry about paying for her son’s college education.

Her son, Jeremiah Travis is 5 and already plays the snare drum in the band for St. Helena College and Career Academy in Greensburg, Louisiana… at just five-years-old. Well, now the kindergartner has gotten the attention of Alcorn State University in Mississippi. They have offered the boy a full band scholarship when he graduated high school in 2032.

Mom Nicole is thrilled. "Now, to know that he is 5 and has a full scholarship made me feel so good. I am just amazed at his playing level with him being so young."

Chesteron Frye, the band director at St. Helena’s and former student band director at Alcorn State University, says it is Travis' work ethic that makes him who he is. "He's 5 years old but he's always working on his skills. Any free time in the band room or when we go on break, he's drumming on the floor, getting other drummers to come and just asking them 'can we play, can we play.'"
