Three years ago, Burhan Chowdhury was diagnosed with cancer. He’s had a hard time keeping his yard in Detroit in good shape and he was given a ticket last August for not keeping things trimmed. His day in court came recently in a hearing over Zoom in front of District Judge Alexis G. Krot.
During the hearing, Judge Krot held up a picture of Chowdhury’s yard and told him he should be ashamed of himself, saying “If I could give you jail time on this, I would.” Instead, she gave him a $100 fine, and after the video of the hearing was shared on social media, the judge is getting blasted for being insensitive.
