How Americans Would Spend An Extra 4 Hours A Day

Ever feel like you don’t have enough hours in the day to get everything done? You’re definitely not alone. According to new research, 60% of Americans don’t think there’s enough time in the day to accomplish all they need to do.

A new poll of 2-thousand adults finds that the average American feels like they’d need an extra four hours in the day to finish the things on their to-do list. With that extra time, people would knock out some chores (34%), tackle bigger projects (28%), go back to school (21%), or get some extra sleep (20%).

  • People have an average of five things on their to-do list on any given day, but about half (48%) of those items don’t get finished.
  • The chores most likely to be pushed aside are housework (38%), outdoor work (37%) and laundry (31%).
  • 39% of respondents admit they avoid certain tasks because they just don’t enjoy them, and the same number (39%) say they just run out of time to do them.
  • Hitting an afternoon slump is something many struggle with and the time people feel the least energetic is between 3 and 4p.m.
  • Certain tasks drain people’s energy the most, including housework (33%), jobs (28%) and financial responsibilities (27%).
  • Since these tasks are a part of their everyday lives, respondents report feeling burned out an average of three days a week.
