Veteran Wins $100K Lottery While Hubby Is Furloughed In Government Shutdown

Some federal workers may be suffering because they’re not getting paid as the longest government shutdown in U.S. history continues, but not the Walls family of Ashburn, Virginia. Carrie Walls just won $100,000 and a new SUV in the Virginia Lottery just as her husband, a federal employee, has been furloughed due to the partial shutdown.

Carrie served 13 years in the Air Force herself and says she “cried and couldn’t believe it” when her name was called as the winner out of 554,000 entries in the “Ford Expedition Plus $100K” lottery contest. She recently picked up her check and new Ford Expedition and says she plans to take her family to Disney World with her winnings.
