Disney is reportedly working on a sequel to the live-action 2019 film Aladdin, according to Variety. The film will be a theatrical release instead of going right to the Disney+ streaming service. Writers John Gatins and Andrea Berloff were able to give Disney execs the new take on the story they hoped for; they had pitch meetings with several writers before deciding on those two. Gatins earned an Oscar nomination for his work on the film Flight and Berloff earned an Oscar nomination for Straight Outta Compton. It is hoped Mena Massoud, Will Smith, Naomi Scott will return to reprise their roles, but offers are unlikely to go out until the script is complete. The 2019 film made over a billion dollars at the box office, so it's understandable that Disney is hoping the sequel will do big numbers as well.
