Ask someone in Nebraska or Iowa to name the best sandwich, and you will probably get more than one answer.

Nebraska diners may point to Omaha’s connection to the Reuben. Iowa diners may make the case for a breaded pork tenderloin sandwich. But are those the sandwiches people search for most?

Coventry Direct reviewed Google Trends data to identify the most-searched sandwich in every state. The study covered searches from November 2024 through November 2025. It measured online search interest, not restaurant sales or an official public vote.

Two Sandwiches Share the National Lead

Turkey sandwiches and grilled cheese tied for the top spot nationally. Each received the most search interest in seven states.

Pastrami on rye followed, finishing first in four states. Other results included brisket, bologna, club sandwiches, tuna melts and even ice cream sandwiches.

Nebraska and Iowa each have their own result on the state-by-state map. Iowa shares its top search with Kansas, while Nebraska goes in a different direction.
