"FRIENDS IN LOW PLACES" ALMOST WASN'T FOR GARTH

The Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum 2016 Medallion Ceremony - Show

In an interview airing on the next CMT Hot 20 Countdown this weekend, Garth Brooks says he almost didn't record "Friends In Low Places".

The song was originally recorded by Mark Chestnutt after George Strait turned it down.

Chestnutt would only agree to let Garth cut it for his second album if Brooks would agree to make it the first single from the album.
