The rise of Will Smith to become the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air was a bumpy ride. After the huge success of his album "He's The DJ, I'm The Rapper", Will Smith's next album flopped.
This turn of events left him broke and riding the bus.
His girlfriend told him to go hang out with Arsenio Hall on his show. She wanted Will to go where people were making things happen.
After a few connections through that show, Will was signing the deal to become the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. It was actually a script for a failed pilot starring Morris Day (of the Time).
Will's lesson: "Say yes, and listen to your girlfriend."
