Happy National Doctors Day- Who Should We Give A Shoutout To?
I'm shouting out my late Grandfather, Francis Callahan. He was an anesthesiologist at New England Memorial Hospital in Stoneham and at Cambridge City Hospital. During World War II, he served as a lieutenant with the United States Army from 1942 until 1946. In 1944 he was taken prisoner by the German Army in Italy and eventually escaped with fellow prisoners from a POW camp in Poland in 1945. After the war he attended medical school and established his practice. He was a former member of Nashawtuc Country Club in Concord and the Massachusetts Medical Society.
