The beauty world is a confusing place, so there’s a lot of room for error. And it turns out, some of the beauty products we’ve been using daily for years? We’ve been using them wrong.
These are the common mistakes many of us make with our go-to products.
- Not using a damp beauty blender - If you’re using a dry beauty sponge to apply your foundation, you’re doing it wrong. Most sponges, especially Beauty Blenders need to be wet first, otherwise they soak up all of your product and make it tricky to get an even application. So run it under the tap and squeeze it out, so it’s not soaking wet, then you’re good to go.
- Applying dry shampoo too close to your scalp - Sure, we all think we know how to use this stuff, but spraying dry shampoo all over the top of your head and then rubbing it in is not the correct way, even though lots of people do this. Instead, hold it about six inches from your scalp, then spray on one section of hair at a time.
- Rubbing in skincare products - Patting is generally more gentle than rubbing and it prevents unnecessary friction and tugging on the skin, especially near the delicate eye area.
- Not using two different concealers - Why would you need two shades? One might not work for everything you want to cover up. Makeup artists recommend at least two concealers - one for brightening up under eyes and one for covering blemishes.
- Using a brow pencil that’s too dark - To avoid your brows looking “drawn on” if you have dark hair, brow artists usually advise going with a pencil or product that’s two shades lighter than your natural brows.
- Using an eyelash curler after mascara - You’re supposed to curl your lashes before applying mascara to keep your eyelashes healthier and to help avoid clumping and fallout. Lashes are less likely to stick to the curler and fall out if they aren’t coated in mascara.
