The IRS starts accepting 2022 tax returns today (January 23rd) and the agency is warning that your refund could be smaller this year due to
- The end of stimulus checks, the enhanced child credit and special pandemic-era tax break for charitable deductions.
- Taxes on investment gains
Financial experts recommend filing electronically this year to avoid the headache of a paper back log.
....and don't forget the government is requiring Venmo and other peer-to-peer payment apps to report income for goods and services worth $600 or more annually.
The general tax deadline is Tuesday, April 18th. If you need an extension, ask for form 4868.
