  • The FBI is warning us not to use free charging stations at places like coffee shops or airports due to "juice jacking".
  • "Juice jacking" is when a scammer installs a fake USB charging station filled with malware, waiting to steal your info once you plug in your phone or tablet.
  • The FBI strongly advises bringing your own charging cable and plugging it into an electrical outlet to keep your data safe.
  • The agency says you could also rent a power bank that places like airports or cafes might offer.
  • You can also buy a "charging only" cable that prevents data transmission. A cord like this usually runs at around $13.
