What is the worst possible way to propose?

Getting engaged can be amazing, but the whole proposal can be pretty stressful. There’s the planning, the coordination and picking out the ring, which all have the potential to go wrong. And when you’re asking a question as important as “Will you marry me?” you really want them to say yes, so it’s pretty important to get it right.

A popular Reddit thread asks, “What is the worst possible way to propose?” and some of these really are awful.

  • “At someone else's wedding/reception.”
  • “Chucking the ring at them and saying, 'Here, wear this.'”
  • “My mom told me that my cousin’s girlfriend got tired of waiting for him to propose (apparently, he said he would but hadn’t gotten around to doing it) and that she straight-up bought a wedding dress and told him they were getting married. He said, 'Ok.' I believe they’ve been married for about 20 years now.”
  • “'Oh yeah,' he rolls over in bed before the lights go out. 'Will you marry me?' he said before falling asleep. I think this is it.”
  • “Flash mob or at a sporting event where they’re on the jumbotron.”
  • “When she is on the toilet.”
  • ““I saw a video of a guy proposing to his girlfriend while she was driving, once. That’s pretty bad.”
  • “At the surprise wedding you threw them.”
  • “Text”
  • “Show her the ring then put both hands behind your back. Say pick a hand now....Oops sorry wrong hand... No proposal this time…”
  • “Live on social media”
  • “Write the proposal on a positive pregnancy test.”
