We know that self-care and focusing on wellness is important for our mental health and well-being, but the way you practice it can make a big difference. Sure, you can spend a fortune if you’re sipping $20 smoothies and going to luxury detox spas, but living well and taking care of yourself doesn’t have to be expensive. It turns out, there are some wellness habits that can actually help you save money, or at least help you spend it more responsibly.
These things can help you live better and spend better, too.
- Being mindful - Mindfulness is really just doing things with attention and intention. It’s easy to get in a routine and kind of run on autopilot, without paying attention to the choices you make, even when it comes to financial decisions. Being mindful about purchases means less mindless spending, and less of the guilt you may feel afterwards. So mindfulness can help you save money and avoid stress, too.
- Getting in touch with nature - Spending time outside in nature comes with all kinds of benefits, it helps people cope better with stress, soak up much-needed vitamin D from sunlight and people who live near green space even have fewer health complaints. And one of the best things about nature? Accessing it can be totally free or cost very little.
- Setting boundaries - Establishing strong boundaries helps you have a clear work-life balance and healthier friendships and relationships. Creating financial boundaries can also help you figure out how you think you should spend your money and communicate that to others. Like if you’re going out for a group dinner, having financial boundaries means you know how much you’re okay with spending and you stick to it, so you don’t go over budget and regret it later.
