A bear called 128 Grazer fended off competition from 11 other bear residents of Katmai National Park in Alaska to be named 2023’s Fat Bear Week champion in an online poll. The winning big mama is known as a particularly fierce defender of her cubs while clearly reserving plenty of food for herself. Fat Bear Week is an annual celebration of the awe-inspiring gluttony practiced by brown bears in preparation for their winter hibernation.
