Sometimes a layover at the airport needs a nice glass of wine, and nowhere will that be more tempting than the airport in Florence, Italy, where a massive and pricey renovation is going to effectively turn it into a fully functional vineyard. When work is done, Amerigo Vespucci Airport will have a new runway … and 19 acres of grapevines growing on the roof of the terminal. A winemaker will oversee the entire winemaking process, from growing the grapes to pressing them, and then barrels of wine will be aged in a cellar located under the terminal. The first phase of construction will be completed in 2026, but the entire project won't be done until 2035.
