A cruise can be a fun getaway to a tropical destination, or it can literally become a new way of life, if you’re on the right ship. The Villa Vie Odyssey sets sail from Belfast on May 30th and it’ll be one of only two residential cruise ships in the world. It’s an endless cruise for those who want it to be, as it offers a pay-as-you-go plan and ownership options, so people can choose to spend as little as 35 days on board, or live out the rest of their life there.
The Villa Vie Odyssey is relatively small, with a 924-person capacity, and will have around 300 passengers, or “residents” on board. Here’s what they can look forward to.
- After setting sail from Northern Ireland, it will visit 425 ports in 147 countries on all seven continents.
- The ship will circumnavigate the globe every three-and-a-half years, with the itinerary broken into 16 “segments” over those 1,301 days.
- The travel plan has been carefully designed so it hits the spring-summer seasons in both the Northern and Southern hemispheres. So passengers can avoid winter forever, if they choose.
- Residents can pick and choose the segments they want to be a part of, they don’t have to stay on board for the entire three-and-a-half years, or get off when it finishes.
- As for the price of this never-ending cruise, a rental comes out to $32,485 per year, or $97,455 for three years.
- An inside cabin is $89 per person per day, while outside cabins start at $119 per person per day and balconies start at $199.
- That includes all food and drink, even alcohol with dinner, as well as Wi-Fi and medical visits, but not procedures or medications.
- The price also covers 24/7 room service, weekly housekeeping and bi-weekly laundry service.
- If you’re buying a cabin, that starts at $99-thousand for an internal one, $149-thousand for an outside one, and $249-thousand for one with a balcony. Owners then pay monthly fees that start at $1,750 per person or $21-thousand a year.
