Blue light blues … We know that the blue light emitted from phones and tablets messes with our sleep and our eyes, but now dermatologists are warning it can mess with your skin. Seems all that exposure to blue light can stimulate production of melanin, the pigment in our skin. The overproduction of melanin can lead to dark spots on the skin – much in the way tanning does. Blue light may also damage collagen, which can lead to wrinkles.

Some ways to fight it:

  • Use the “night mode” setting or a blue-light filter app to reduce your exposure to blue light in the evening.
  •  Minimize screen time before bed.
  • Hold your phone or device away from your skin to minimize exposure to blue light.
  • Use sunscreen.
