After announcing this summer its intention to switch to assigned seating, Southwest Airlines is moving forward with those plans, marking a big change from its long-standing open seating policy. The new seating model will be implemented in the second half of 2025, with passengers getting assigned seats on flights starting in early 2026. The airline will also offer premium seating options with additional legroom, with no changes to current legroom in economy. In addition to these ticketing changes, Southwest has also unveiled a redesigned cabin interior featuring new seats, which has received mixed feedback from customers.
