Move over doom-scrolling…“doom spending” is the new game in town. A new survey from Credit Karma found that Americans…the young in particular…have turned to spending to cope with the stresses of the modern world. The survey of just over 1,000 adults found that 27% cope with stress through “doom spending,” but that percentage leaps to 37% for the Gen Z crowd and 39% for Millennials. Seven out of ten Gen Z’ers say they’re “chronically online, and 53% of those people say “receiving bad news online and on social media drives them to stress spend” to make them feel better…even temporarily.
