Whether it’s this weekend or the next, the office holiday party is coming…unless, of course, you work at the kind of place that ditched fun things like that so that execs could keep their bonuses intact. If your corporate Christmas event is full steam ahead, then it’s a good time to remind you of all the things you can do…and the things you should avoid at all costs.
- DON’T be the first…or the last…to leave
- DO get a nice-sized lunch earlier in the day, especially since there’ll most likely be simple appetizers rather than a full meal alongside hearty quantities of alcohol
- DO dress nice for the event, but don’t go all prom-y about it
- DON’T make it an evening all of your social media followers need to know about…there’s no need to post embarrassing shots or videos of your coworkers making asses out of themselves, especially since you’d prefer they not do that to you
- DON’T bitch about work or go around making promises you can’t, or have no intention of, keeping
- DO sack up and venture out beyond the three-or-four people you typically pal around with on the job
- DO embrace the evening and events that are part of it, as coming off as the guy who actually enjoys his life and the season won’t hurt you nearly as much as being known as the office Scrooge, Grinch, Krampus, or all of the above
