If you’ve ever nervously watched your teen head out the door for an Uber ride, this update might make you breathe a little easier. Uber is testing a new safety feature that lets parents livestream their teen’s ride in real time — straight from the driver’s front-facing phone camera.
It’s part of Uber’s teen accounts for riders ages 13 to 17, and it’s designed to give parents more peace of mind without being too intrusive.
👀 How the Livestream Works
When a teen starts their ride, parents can open the app and choose to watch a live video feed. Both the teen and the driver get a notification when a parent starts viewing, so there are no surprises.
The video is encrypted, disappears when the trip ends, and can’t be replayed later. It’s not meant to be a permanent recording — just a real-time safety check.
Uber can review a recording only if a safety incident is reported, which adds another layer of protection.
🧪 Where It’s Being Tested
Right now, the feature is being tested in nine U.S. markets. Uber says a nationwide rollout is coming in the next few weeks, so parents everywhere may soon have access.
