A 17-year-old family dog stayed with his three-year-old little girl all night after she wandered off from her family’s home in the Australian bushland and he eventually led rescuers to her. Max, a blue heeler who’s deaf and partially blind, stayed with the child during the rainy night on the rural property and the next morning, he led the child’s grandmother to her.
Max and the tot survived more than 15 hours in the Queensland wild, as emergency services searched for the little girl. And when they found her, more than a mile from home, she was in good health and just had a few scratches. .
"The area around the house is quite mountainous and is very inhospitable terrain to go walking in," emergency services coordinator Ian Phipps explains. "So she'd travelled quite a distance with her dog that was quite loyal to her.” Police have recognized Max for being such a good boy, making him an honorary police dog for his efforts.
