Tween organizes a fundraiser and it causes a chain reaction of kindness

Steve & Gina's Smile File airs weekdays at 5:40am and 7:40am

After reading the book “Choose to Matter” by two-time Olympic gold medalist Julie Foudy, Logan Wilson was inspired. So for her upcoming 12th birthday, she decided to give up the traditional party and presents to help someone else, Piper Waneka, a four-year-old girl who’s battling cancer.

Piper was diagnosed with a rare brain tumor in June and her cancer, Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma, has no treatment or cure. So Logan and her family organized a run in Denver to benefit Piper. And that act of kindness has caused a chain reaction, with other kids opting out of birthday parties to join Logan’s effort to help little Piper.

“I hope they just find a cure and work harder and harder and make it better for families who are experiencing it,” Logan says.
