A man down on his luck gets help from his customers

Caring customers of a neighborhood grocery store in Roseville, California are coming together to help out a long time employee. Jim Johnson has been working at Bel Air for nearly 30 years and has gotten to know some regular customers, so when they found out he needed help with transportation, they were happy to pitch in.

Johnson has spent three years as a courtesy clerk at the supermarket, but he recently hit some bad luck. His car engine blew up, but he couldn’t afford repairs, so he bought a bicycle to ride to work, but it was stolen during one of his shifts. And when customer Rose Elley heard about it, she started a GoFundMe campaign to raise money for Johnson, while someone else gave him another bike.

Folks are happy to help Johnson because he’s always been helpful to them. “It surprised me. I just thought I was doing my job,” Johnson explains. “This is my opportunity to say thanks.”

So far the GoFundMe campaign has raised $5,000 of the $8,000 goal, which is what Elley says they need for a good, reliable used car for Johnson.Source: CBS Sacramento
