What is it about knowing you have somewhere to be in an hour that makes us want to kick up our feet and do nothing? Researchers from Ohio State University conducted eight studies and found over and over again that participants seem to feel they have less time to get a task done when they have an upcoming appointment. Also, that they seem to get more done when they don't have a scheduled task coming up. Selin Malkoc, co-author of the study and associate professor of marketing says this may explain why, on days when we have meetings spread throughout, we feel like we have accomplished little. She says one solution to this issue would be to try to schedule all your meetings back to back, and to remind yourself of how much time you really do have available, not just how much time you feel like you have available.(EurekAlert!)
