Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are said to be returning $9.3-million in wedding gifts from strangers and major brands. Palace aides fear people and companies could try to use the newlyweds publicity.
It's all about royal protocol. According to official guidelines: "The fundamental principle governing the acceptance of gifts by Members of The Royal Family is that no gifts, including hospitality or services, should be accepted which would, or might appear to, place the Member of The Royal Family under any obligation to the donor."
For those gifts from people the royals don't know personally, they are to be "refused." So if you're planning to send the royal couple a food processor, hold on to it.
