In August 2017, Jane Pappalardo unexpectedly went into labor at her home on Long Island. Her family called 911, but her husband Mike actually delivered baby Bryce. The Suffolk County Police Department says the umbilical cord was wrapped around his neck and that’s when Officer Jon-Erik Negron stepped in to help.
Officer Negron used a plastic syringe from the kitchen to open the baby’s airway so he could breathe. After saving their newborn son’s life, Negron has become a part of the family, talking to Jane on the phone weekly. And now, the officer has officially become Bryce’s godfather at his christening.
“I’m just happy to play a role and I’m happy to always be there and always help because I know Bryce is going to grow up to do great things," Negron says in a news release from the Suffolk County Police Department.
