Carrie Fisher will make a posthumous appearance in Star Wars: Episode IX, filmmakers announced on Friday. Fisher died in 2016, before the last installment of the film franchise was released. However, direct J.J. Abrams says unused scenes from the filming of that movie will be used to create new scenes that will complete the story of Leia Organa. Mark Hamill, who will be returning in his role as Luke Skywalker, said on Twitter that the news was "bittersweet" and that he is "finding solace in the fact that she won’t BE replaced & would love the worldwide outpouring of affection from those who loved her when they heard the news. #CarrieOnForever.”
