Experts Warn Aussies Against Drinking Booze Out of Shoes

From rockers to Formula One racers, Australians are all about the "shoey" right now--the act of removing your shoe, filling it with alcohol, and chugging. But health experts warn that people should follow their gut on this gross practice and pass the boot. Researchers at Western Sydney University dug into what's living in our shoes, and they found it's not too compatible with our digestive tracts. "I wouldn't recommend drinking out of a shoe that's been immersed in alcohol," said Dr. Vincent Ho. That said, some booze is better than others. Beer has hops, which Ho said deactivates some bacteria, like staph. And leaving some vodka in your shoe for a minute will kill a lot of bad stuff. However, other alcohol, like champagne, doesn't do the trick.
