A Shelter that welcomes homeless vets and their faithful companion!

There are many homeless people living on the streets because they have pets and most shelters don’t allow them to stay there with their animals. But The Gratitude House in Louisville, Kentucky, is one of the few that welcome humans and their pets.

When these folks are struggling to survive, veterinary care for their pets isn’t always within their means, so local vet Dr. Laura Lee Rubsch and her tech are among a group of volunteers working to ensure these animals get the care they need. They work in a partnership with Pets4Life mobile clinic and use medication donated by other local vets and drug reps.

"I think it gives them a purpose, gives them a reason, gives them something to care for, besides themselves, because I think everyone needs a purpose outside of themselves,” Dr. Rubsch says of the homeless pet owners. “It’s nice to know you can make a difference.”
