Today is International Cat Day

Today is International Cat Day. Created by 2002 by the International Fund for Animal Welfare, it's an opportunity to celebrate one of the most popular animals. Here are 10 facts about felines to get you started: 

    1. A group of cats is called a "clowder."
    2. Over 30 percent of American households own a cat as a pet.  That’s a little less than dogs, as 36.5 percent of American households have canines.
    3. Cats spend 70 percent of their day sleeping. 
    4. Cats are smarter than dogs. They have 300 million neurons in their brain, whereas dogs have about 160 million.
    5. The longest-living cat was Creme Puff from Austin, Texas, who died aged 38. 
    6. Famous celebrity cats include Olivia Benson and Meredith Grey, owned by Taylor Swift, Kitty Purry owned by Katy Perry, and Ed Sheeran’s Calippo & Dorito. 
    7. Hearing is a cat’s most acute sense--they hear about four times as well as a human. 
    8. Most cats could run faster than Usain Bolt if they wanted to. 
    9. Black cats are seen as a sign of good luck in many countries around the world, especially in Japan where they are revered.
