FOX News Mistakes Patti LaBelle for Aretha Franklin

FOX News mistook singer Patti LaBelle for Aretha Franklin on Thursday, including a photo of LaBelle as part of the network’s obituary tribute to Franklin. The Daily Newsreports that the flub occurred at the end of America’s Newsroom, when a segment memorializing the Queen of Soul featured a background photograph of LaBelle singing for PBS in 2014. “We sincerely apologize to Aretha Franklin’s family and friends,” Jessica Santostefano, FOX News’s VP of media desk, says in a statement. “Our intention was to honor the icon using a secondary image of her performing with Patti LaBelle in the full screen graphic, but the image of Ms. Franklin was obscured in that process, which we deeply regret.” Contrary to the claim, however, Franklin was not onstage with LaBelle during the performance in the photo. In fact, Franklin and LaBelle reportedly had a longstanding feud that only ended with the “Respect” singer’s death on Thursday at age 76.
