Forget about apples, it looks like a few strawberries a day could keep the doctor away. UPI reports that a new scientific study finds that eating strawberries could reduce effects of inflammation of the colon. These effects include severe diarrhea and fatigue. The study was conducted in mice by researchers at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. Their results were presented Monday at the 256th National Meeting & Exposition of the American Chemical Society in Boston. "The sedentary lifestyle and dietary habits of many people in this country--high-sugar, high-animal fat, but low-fiber diets--may promote colonic inflammation and increase the risk," said study leader Dr. Hang Xiao. Consumption of fruits and vegetables has been linked with lower Inflammatory Bowel Disease risk.
