Great-Grandma Kills 580-Pound Gator to Avenge Mini-Horse's Death

About three years ago, Judy Cochran's mini-horse went missing, and its remains were never found. But she always suspected a large alligator devoured her pony, and on Monday, Cochran feels confident that she avenged its death, shooting and killing a 12-foot, 580-pound alligator that was prowling around her Texas ranch. As USA Todaynotes, Cochran's had a memorable 2018: In May, she was elected mayor of Livingston, Texas, and in September she became a great-grandmother. Incidentally, the gator was found in the same pond where Cochran's then-5-year-old grandson shot and killed an 800-pound gator in 2009.
