For as long as anyone can remember, people have been trying to find ways to reverse the effects of aging so they look younger. That’s why stores are full of pricey creams and serums and people line up to get expensive procedures and treatments on their skin. But it turns out, there’s another way to deal with saggy skin and wrinkles - from the inside out.
Sure, genetics accounts for some of our premature aging, but most of it is actually in our control. And the part we can control is all the stress in our lives. Our diets, exercise habits, social and professional environments all affect how much stress we deal with. The stress is aging us prematurely and we can see that on our faces at the end of a long week, but since we can’t live on a permanent vacation to escape the demands of life, meditation can help.
Meditation helps reduce the negative impacts of stress and fatigue by letting our minds and bodies reach something called the relaxation response. This is where our system can rest and recover, and it’s not quite the same as a 10-day vacation, but it helps. They say it only takes around 15 to 20 minutes once or twice a day to meditate and that it can help you sleep better, feel more relaxed, have more energy, and then there’s that whole looking and feeling younger thing. So it’s a mood boost and a fancy serum on one, what have we got to lose?
