A nurse helps fulfill one of her patients dying wishes

Joe Booth used to love building toy model planes as a kid, but he’d never stepped foot on airplane until recently. Earlier this year, Joe was told he didn’t have much longer live due to his battle with prostate cancer. One of his final wishes was to fly in airplane, and thanks to his oncology nurse Tracey Hoffman, his wish was granted.

Tracey hopped on Facebook to see who could help. “Here we are talking about the end of his life and he's thinking about how he had never been in an airplane,” she said in an interview. “I decided to put it on social media [and] my phone started to explode.”Over 25 pilots volunteered, and she eventually chose the pilot located near the hospital. Tracy and Joe took off from Bowman Field and saw the sights up high traveling through Louisville and Southern Indiana. The New Albany, Indiana resident said he was scared but excited he got to cross the flight off his bucket list.

Sadly Joe has passed away. At the funeral his family told the nurse granting his wish to fly was “one of the most beautiful things they'd witnessed.”
