In an effort to ensure future generations of coders and computer engineers, Amazon has launched a new program that aims to teach 10 million students a year how to become more computer savvy. The AP reports that Amazon Future Engineer aims to encourage more black, Hispanic, and female students to study computer science by offering free courses, camps, and supplies. The camps and after-school programs will be held at Amazon offices across the country from kids in Kindergarten through eighth grade, as well as online training for teachers at 2,000 low income schools. “We’re pretty confident that knowing how to code will be as important as knowing how to read for the jobs of the future,” says Jeff Wilke, Amazon’s chief executive of worldwide consumer. Amazon Future Engineer will also offer scholarship and internship opportunities to college students studying computer engineering.
