5 Self-Care New Year's Resolutions You'll Actually Keep

“I’m going to lose 15 pounds.” “I want to save $500 a month.” Many—if not most—New Year’s resolutions fall by the wayside by February 1. This year, we’re focusing on setting goals that are easy to stick with and that contribute to our overall health and well-being. If you’re down to join us, consider one of these five, self-care-focused resolutions that you’ll actually want to keep.

Once a Week, Take a Long Walk No, not, like, hours-long, but try to squeeze in a 30- to 60-minute stroll each week. You don’t have to have a destination in mind, the point is to get outside, clear your head and get a little exercise in the process.

Once a Day, Put Your Phone on "Do Not Disturb" If only for an hour, spending time without texts, emails and Instagram stories looming over your head is so refreshing.

Create (and Stick to) a Calming Morning and Nighttime RoutineThink about the things that set you up for a happy day (leisurely putting on makeup, taking a few minutes to enjoy your coffee) and a restful night (lighting your favorite candle, reading 20 pages of a book) and turn them into habits. The repetition will ensure that you start—and end—your day in the right mind-set.

Do Something Nice for Someone Else Every Day Every single day might sound daunting, but these don’t have to be grand gestures. Whether it means buying coffee for your work wife, holding the door for someone or just smiling as you walk down the street, random acts of kindness are so satisfying.

Comment Liberally on Your Friend’s InstagramsIt’s called being a social uplifter, and it’s both easy and lovely. Each time you see a friend’s post and think to yourself “She looks so pretty!” or “That is the cutest cat I’ve ever seen,” don’t keep it to yourself—type it out in the comments section. They’ll feel great and you’ll feel great. A total win-win.
