We're well into winter, and if you've managed to avoid getting sick-- good for you. If you haven't, you might want to add probiotics to your diet. Steven Bowers, DO, says you can eat either a probiotic-rich yogurt, or take a probiotic supplement. A study from 2017 found people who ate probiotic-rich yogurt were found to have beefed up immune systems compared to those who only took a sugar pill. Probiotics seem to interact with microbes in our intestines, doing a variety of things, including helping keep viruses and bacteria from taking hold. If you're buying yogurt you should look for one that has to be refrigerated, says it contains "live and active cultures," and contains at least six grams of protein, but no more than 200 calories, 4 grams of fat, or 30 grams of sugar.
