YouTube Reduces Video Quality To Ease Strain on the Internet

YouTube announced Tuesday that all videos on the platform will now be shown in standard definition in order to lessen the worldwide burden on internet infrastructure, CNN reports, which has become strained under the weight of coronavirus lockdowns. The change is expected to be in effect for 30 days, and YouTube said the move is meant, "to do our part to minimize stress on the system during this unprecedented situation." Users will still be able to manually change to a higher resolution on a per-video basis.
