Behind Bars At The Sarpy County Jail

I spent some time behind bars yesterday with some corrections officers at the Sarpy County Jail.

Sgt. Mark Shiller and his crew with the Sarpy County Sheriff's Department were a part of our latest Red, KAT and Blue to honor first responders around KAT Country!

This team works hard every day in the corrections department in Papillion, NE.  They were given a great BBQ meal from Hog Wild Pit B B Q and some other goodies from Gregg Young Chevrolet as a way to say "Thanks" for all they do.

Shiller's daughter, Bailey submitted this short essay:

I'm nominating my dad and his crew for this contest because I don't believe enough people appreciate the men and women that work in our jails and prisons. When most people think of police officers and sheriff's deputies they think of the people handing out speeding tickets. But those are not our only law enforcement officers protecting and providing for our community. My dad goes to work every day to try to create a better environment for people who have been caught in a tough spot. He works with people in our corrections systems everyday and gives them respect even though they have fallen into some trouble. I believe my dad and his crew should be recognized because these are the people that are taking care of our citizens and trying to make a better future for everyone.

A BIG shout-out to Hog Wild Pit B B Q and Gregg Young Chevrolet for being great partners to honor these first responders each month!
