College Kid Vows To Help Mom After Lottery Win

A college student from North Carolina got lucky with a lottery win and she says she plans to do something good with her money: help her mother. Torey Hicks from Winston-Salem calls the $200,000 she won “a blessing” that will give her the chance to help her mom out, the same way she always helped her.

The junior at Shaw University says she’s going to put her prize money toward helping her mom pay off her car and buy a home. Hicks says she couldn’t believe she’d won until she scanned her ticket using the lottery app and it gave her the message: “Claim at lottery headquarters.”

After taxes, Hicks takes home a $141,501 prize, but she’s not thinking about what she can buy herself. She’s only focused on her mom and says, “I want to do something for her because she has always done for me.”
