Chris Young's new track “Drowning” will be released Friday. The emotional song talks about the grief one feels after the death of a friend. Young attempted to play it at the Grand Ole Opry but broke down in tears and couldn’t finish.
In an article in The Tennessean Young said, “I cried like a baby in the middle of my song,” Young admitted. “I didn’t mean to do that. I turned my back around to pull it back together and the audience stood up. I was like, ‘Nope, I’m toast.’”
The band finished playing the song without him.
After his performance he tweeted: "Well, I cried when I sang Drowning tonight at the @opry for the first time. Thank you guys for listening and I can’t wait for you guys to hear this one. Coming soon..."
Young updated his followers with this Tweet: "Last week, I debuted my new tune Drowning at the @opry and broke down...since then so many people have shared stories of loved ones lost and how they have connected to this song. I want you guys to have this one, and make it your own, so I’m going to release it this Friday."
