Honoring An Omaha First Responder With Our Red KAT & Blue

I headed to South Omaha for our latest Red KAT & Blue along with my friends from Hog Wild Pit BBQ to say "THANK YOU" to a local First Responder!

We received lots of great nominations the past few weeks, but this one stood out to us. KAT 103.7 listener Michelle Morgan nominated Omaha Firefighter - Nellie Diaz and wrote: Before she was a hero that fought fires, Nellie was a hero in the classroom as a math teacher and heron on the court as coach of Ralston's girls basketball team. After teaching for a little while she felt a calling to be a firefighter and she followed that calling. She has been with the Omaha Fire Department for three (3) years now. Last year she represented "Red" in the Omaha Guns & Hoses Boxing Challenge. Although she didn't win the fight, she wins many others! Nellie is one of my true heroes! She has played many roles in my life, she was a coworker first, my sons amazing math teacher, but most importantly, my best friend!

Congratulations to Nellie Diaz...and a big THANKS to you and your crew on the Omaha Fire Department for doing what you do every day to help keep all of us safe!

We'll be out again for another round of Red KAT & Blue. Keep an eye on the website to nominate your first responder. Also - a special shout-out to Katie Schwartz with Hog Wild Pit BBQ for delivering a great meal to Nellie and her crew in South Omaha!
